Before Google called midtown home, a little place called Workplace One moved into the Breithaupt Block. They're still there and this Wednesday, October 10, you're invited to their LOKAL Festival from 5 to 8 PM. LOKAL Festival is an event to showcase Kitchener-Waterloo's small makers and young entrepreneurs of food and beverage. They've teamed up with some of the region's finest small-batch food producers as well as a selection of craft brewers, mixologists and artisans - all of whom will showcasing their products. - including Wellington Brewery, KW Craft Cider, Trail Estate Winery, FQ Butcher Shop, Public Kitchen and Bar, Essen Eats, J & P grocery, Ambrosia Pastry and Crumb Bake House.
Over at your Kitchener Public Library on Thursday, October 11 - Johnny Hollow & My Pet Skeleton present: Oktoberfaust - The Old Gods of New Berlin. This art and music exhibition by Johnny Hollow explores dark characters of mythology and folklore and mixes them with contemporary themes drawn from the diverse cultural mosaic of the Kitchener Waterloo Region. Join us at the opening reception for the unveiling of the songs and art, and to hear a little bit about the creative process.
The Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region and Male Allies presents "Raising Feminist Boys - Redefining Masculinity" this Thursday, October 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. The workshop is for boys ages 8 -12 and their care givers. This workshop examines some of the ways in which gender-based stereotypes impact our relationships with ourselves and others.
Canadian soul diva Shakura S’Aida joins the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony for the greatest hits of this century’s First Ladies of Song. Showcasing the legendary music of Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Beyoncé and more. Two shows - Friday, October 12 and Saturday, October 13 at Centre in the Square.

Bearface Design presents Art, Design & Architecture - a documentary series exploring creatives and the creative world. Every Monday in October at 7pm at The Princess Cinemas. This Monday, Oct. 8 is "Kusama Infinity" co-presented with Him & Her.

Head down to the Canadian Clay and Glass Museum on Thursday, October 25 for Meet the Creators. It's an evening of art, virtual reality, 3D printing, film and artificial intelligence. There'll be food and drinks from Patent Social, Kinkaku Izakaya and Together We're Bitter - and an AI-powered DJ which hopefully has better taste that any of my Spotify playlists. Jennifer Gough will be creating live art at the event followed by a silent auction. All proceeds will be donated to the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery.
