At your Waterloo Public Library from 7 - 8:30 PM, join author Megan Koreman for an informative discussion of her new book "Escape Line : How the Ordinary Heroes of Dutch-Paris Resisted the Nazi Occupation of Western Europe."

Thursday, Feb 7
Over at Kitchener Public Library, there's an artist opening reception for "Time-In/Time-Out", black and white photography by Jim Blomfield from 7 - 8:30. Jim Blomfield is a photo-artist residing in Waterloo, Ontario. He specializes in black-and-white photography, using film to capture his images and a “wet” darkroom to craft his prints. His work has appeared in several publications, and he has exhibited provincially and internationally.
Maxwell's Music and Events and Cats Cove Media Presents Hugo Alley, Excuse Me, 12 Mile Island, The Accents and No Service. Doors at 7, $12.50 advanced tickets available.
The Jazz Room in Uptown has the Steve McDade Sextet starting at 8:30 this Thursday. Tix are $20.
KWAG, Perimeter Development Corporation and the Walper Hotel present Culture Talks: Ken Greenberg this Thursday from 6:30 to 7:30. Ken is an urban designer and former Director of Urban Design and Architecture for the City of Toronto and Principal of Greenberg Consultants. He played a leading role as urban design lead and client representative for The Bentway, a major public space under the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto and is currently serving as an advisor to Sidewalk Labs for Quayside on the Toronto waterfront.

Rhapsody Barrel Bar has Orangeman on Friday at 9:30. Orangeman puts on a non-stop show featuring top party songs from the 80's, 90's and some Top 40 hits.
The Marit Collective has a session with the awesome Ren Navarro talking Beer. Diversity. Representation & Inclusivity this Friday from 7 to 9. The craft beer scene is overwhelmingly young, white and male. How can we make it more inclusive of everyone? Lack of representation isn't an issue only confined to the beer industry, of course, and in examining this example our discussion will spark useful thoughts for other businesses and organizations as well as rethinking "who makes and drinks craft beer?"
Saturday, Feb 9
CycleWR presents "The Coldest Ride of the Year 2019" this Saturday at 1 PM. Bundle up and join CycleWR for their oldest day of the year ride & social. Meet them in the Waterloo City Hall parking lot at 1 PM. The ride starts at 1:15 and they'll make their way to downtown Kitchener together as a group, ending at Abe Erb (151 Charles St W) to warm up and chat. Register so they know how many people are riding.
Spend a full day in interactive workshops designed to engage in the science, technology, engineering, art and math behind all things that launch! Learn how concepts like drag, lift, gravity and thrust work to propel and accelerate aircraft and rockets. Work closely with STEAM coaches and compete in teams to design and build the highest, fastest, farthest launch for your chance to go home a champion in LAUNCH Waterloo’s first-ever STEAM Tournament. Saturday, Feb. 9 at 9 AM. Designed for kids aged 8-12.
The next concert in the K-W Symphony Concerts For Kids and Families Kinderconcert Series features Odawa First Nations storyteller Barbara Croall and a small group of K-W Symphony musicians for Footprints In The Snow at the Woolwich Memorial Centre on Saturday, February 9 at 10:30 am.
It's the 30th anniversary of the Patric Swayze cinematic masterpiece "Road House" and the Apollo has a special Drunken Cinema screening at 9 PM this Saturday.

Common Knowledge is a new series of monthly talks for curious minds + lifelong learners. Their first talk is "Twenty-Somethings Can't Buy Houses Without Calling Their Parents" on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at J&P Grocery from 6-8.
Canadian artist Jessica Gorlicky (JESSGO) brings her urban chic style and live, colorful creations to the KWS stage for Pops and Paints on Feb 22 and 23 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square. Led by conductor Lucas Waldin, the concert features a unique blend of art and music as speed painter JESSGO creates three unique works of art live onstage while the orchestra plays. The concert also features Maxime Goulet’s Symphonic Chocolates, which pairs a chocolate with each movement. Chocolates will be available for purchase to enjoy along with the piece.
Coming up on Saturday, Feb 23 - it's BowieFest - Downtown Kitchener's local tribute to David Bowie with music, food, art and community - hosted in collaboration with the City of Kitchener, Sofar Sounds Waterloo, The Kitchener Market, White Tiger Vintage, The Yeti and Apollo Cinema.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Comedy Festival is coming to town from February 28 to March 2. It's three nights of great comedy at Centre in the Square, The Apollo Cinema, Starlight Social, the Tannery Event Centre, Patent Social and the Jazz Room.

The Wooden Boat Food Company has been generating a lot of buzz since it opened in October 2018. They open Thursday to Saturday to serve up Vietnamese street food, otherwise they are a boutique catering company that specializes in Vietnamese and French fare. The Wooden Boat Food Company is tucked away in warehouse on a residential street, just off the Iron Horse Trail. Word on the street is they are opening a new location in Waterloo this spring! The food is made with locally-grown, pasture-raised or organic ingredients. Their decor are made from upcycled materials, the take-out containers and utensils are 100% compostable, and they are proudly a saran-wrap free kitchen. As if being a successful sustainable restaurant and caterer isn’t impressive enough, The Wooden Boat Food Company also sells their award-winning dipping sauce, NUOC Cham, in local retailers such as Vincenzo’s, Farm Boy in Fairway Plaza, and Legacy Greens.
