Eating and drinking and working.

I'm involved in a side project here in town called Geek Week WR. For reasons I haven't figured out yet, Geek Week is two weeks of events and people celebrating the things they're passionate about. This year's events include, but are not limited to, MakerExpo, Hack the North, Waterloo Innovation Summit, Startups and Beer, Communitech Tech Jam, and Doors Open Waterloo Region.
Local businesses are participating too - with special deals from Abe Erb, Goodvibes Juice Co and more. Want your event or business to be part of Geek Week? Head over to geekweekwr.ca and sign up!

Words Worth Books has combined my two favourite things - choose your own adventure books and my paralyzing inability to make a purchase decision.
You can pick up three mystery titles for $10 now. Brave the LRT construction and head over to uptown and see what adventure (or mystery or romance) awaits you.

I recently wrote about the Art District Gallery's search for a new space on Communitech News. They're howing a moving reception this Thursday, August 18 at the Kitchener Market.
There's live music by Andy Klaehn and a silent auction in support of the ADG.
It's a great chance to get out and meet some of the artists in your community.
Last but not least - The Berlin is up for Air Canada's enRoute Best New Restaurant. Head to their voting page and make it happen for them!
What to do.
Grab your kids (or legally borrow your friend's) and take the afternoon of Tuesday, August 16 off for Train Station Tuesdays at the Waterloo Public Library. There'll be Pipe Cleaner Crafts, CD Scratch Art, Marble Dipped Mugs (must bring own mug - should be all white), and Sphero Robots.
Parkminster United Church (275 Erb St E, Waterloo) hosts five food trucks every Wednesday during the summer. Head over this Wednesday, August 17 to check out the selection.
Open Sesame (220 King St W, Kitchener) is hosting Danaadizi - An Indigenous Art Event this Thursday, August 18. The event will showcase multidisciplinary and experimental works by Indigenous artists from around Southwestern Ontario.
Celebrate the release of Kitchener's own Alysha Brilla & The Brilltones' third album "HUMAN" this Friday, August 19 at The Jazz Room (59 King St N, Waterloo). The album was mixed by Gary Noble who's previously mixed tracks for Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill.
Get your kids to bed early this weekend because Sunday, August 21 is Kidspark in Victoria Park. It's a full day event with hands on activities aimed at reading and literacy including multiple story times, appearances by authors, crafts, games and more! There will also be people dressed as Star Wars characters - bring your light sabres.
Also on Sunday - it's Open Streets Waterloo time again this Sunday, August 21. You're invited to enjoy live music, art and activities, community groups, businesses and eateries. Local vendors, artists, not-for-profit organizations, and other performers gain the opportunity to share their product and services.
