Two new businesses have opened their doors in Waterloo. Last Friday, Unity Baking opened at 331 King St W in Kitchener. Today, Mother's Pizza opens in the former Benny's location at 183 Weber St N in Waterloo. I didn't grow up here - but people who did rave about Mother's - so looking forward to checking it out.
The next two weeks will be a nonstop barrage of Oktoberfest events - which is awesome because I love sauerkraut. There's more going on too - check out below for details.

HackerNest Waterloo is happening a week early this month. Come join your local tech community tonight at this month's host - Distillery Labs (181 King St S, Waterloo). The event kicks off at 8pm.
Startup Open House Waterloo Region (yes, the whole region) is this Tuesday, October 4. It's your chance to meet the teams and see the spaces of local startups including Green Brick Labs, Alert Labs, Communitech, Shopify Plus, KW Labs, Sortable, Magnet Forensics and more. I'll be at Communitech - come say hi!

This Wednesday, October 5, Random House Associate Director, Publicity, Ashley Dunn will use examples of marketing hits and misses to shed light on the publicity process, and what you can do to help make your book stand out in today’s highly competitive market.
It's the most wunderbar time of the year! The keg will be tapped this Friday, kicking off nine days of Oktoberfest celebrations in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge. The Oktoberfest team has a list of the their top 10 things to do during the festivities. Here's a few I'd recommend:
Food trucks are a great way of recovering from the previous night's festing. Kitchener-Waterloo OktoberFEAST food truck event returns for their fifth year. The event runs Saturday October 8 and Sunday October 9.
Ever play foosball and wish there was a life sized version you could play? Yeah, me too. Now's our chance! Register your team or join a team of five people for this elimination-style tournament on two life-sized inflatable foosball fields and enjoy an entire day of Oktoberfest food and entertainment. Fusstoberfest takes place at the centre of the Oktoberfest Platz in Carl Zehr Square in front of the Kitchener City Hall. Saturday, October 8 10am.
If you're in downtown Kitchener, take your lunch break early and had down to Carl Zehr Square for the official opening ceremonies. Friday, October 7 11:15am.
