Eating and drinking and working.

I'm going to talk about sidewalk snow removal. Before I do that, I want to say that I have nothing but love for all the city snow removal team members across Kitchener and Waterloo. I can't imagine all the fists shaking in the air that you see on the day after a snowfall, but I can tell you that I just wave and say thank you.
Earlier this month, the City of Kitchener debated city provided sidewalk clearing and decided not to implement it. Cost was a large part of the factor for not moving forward.
Putting the cost aside for a moment - I want to frame this around where our cities are heading. We're building new paths, trails and the LRT to make it easier to get around the region without cars. But if we don't properly maintain the paths and keep the sidewalks to the LRT stations clear, it'll all be for naught.
Clearing sidewalks and trails has to be a priority - but I'm not sure what the solution will be.
After a few beers at Arabella Park, I suggested to a friend that we build little libraries - but instead of books, the little library has a snow blower in it. They'd also have to be bigger than normal little libraries. More shed sized little libraries. Or normal sized sheds when you think about it. It's a work in progress.
Anyway - when you see the plow coming down the street, give 'em a wave.
What to do.
