This workshop will explore the craft of romance writing to help create believable, swoony, satisfying romance novels. Farah will cover the requirements of the genre and a discussion of all the subgenres, before diving into plot structure, setting, dialogue, scenes, and nailing the emotions to hook readers. Join Kitchener Public Library for QueerKPL: Drag Then & Now to learn about drag history with special guests Russ Martin and Flare. Researcher Russ Martin presents and facilitates this program about the history of drag in Toronto & Canada. Russ will also be joined by internationally renowned drag king Flare to discuss where drag kings fit into drag history in Canada and beyond. Thursday, June 17 at 7 p.m.

Celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day and Indigenous History Month at Kitchener Public Library with 85Green: Cooking with Chef Zerka. He’ll guide you through making Bannock, a type of fry-bread that is crispy golden on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. Saturday, June 19 at 2 p.m.
How well do you know Uptown Waterloo? Put you knowledge to the test with the Uptown BIA Amazing Race Scavenger Hunt. Clues start at 10 a.m. and your team has until 5 p.m. to submit your answers for chances to win some amazing prizes.
CAFKA presents Khadija Baker Performing Community Garden. Performing community garden is a participatory performance, and subsequent video work, where Baker employs story-telling and memories in a reciprocal relationship with community members. Wearing a hand-woven dress designed to hold a number of plants, Baker will share a plant with a name attached to it, with participants to take home with them. The names of the plants belong to primarily civilians who have been lost or displaced through violent situations as well as the names of survivors who have recently arrived in Canada.

Cycling into the Future is raising funds to help get more kids riding bikes around Waterloo Region. They provide in-school instruction and supply bikes and helmets to those who can’t afford them. They’re holding a fundraiser from June 18-27 and the awesome folks at CycleWR have a team you can join – or create your own!
