Over at Kitchener Public Library presents 85 Queen: Praying to the West: How Muslims Shaped the Americas. Author Omar Mouallem discusses his book “In Praying to the West”, which explores the history of Islam in the Americas and the search for an answer to how the religion has survived and thrived so far from the place of its origin.

Idea Exchange has Fine Zines: A Queer Zine Workshop on at 7 p.m. In this workshop, Alyssa Pisciotto will go over the how-tos of zine making, followed by guided time for participants to create a zine that explores lived experiences, truths, and stories of being queer. Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m.

Celebrate Oktoberfest with Hannah and her friends as Kitchener Public Library Kids and KIDtoberfest presents: Storytime with Hannah and Friends live at 11 a.m.!

I, the Mountain and Treephones are playing Craftoberfest at TWB Brewing Co-Op starting at 8 p.m.

Later in the day at KPL, Dyke Bar Takeover Kitchener-Waterloo is taking over Kitchener Public Library to host QueerKPL & Dyke Bar Takeover – Storytelling Workshop, a virtual storytelling series with acclaimed storyteller Erin Rodgers. Through group activities and coaching, Erin will teach you the skills and give you the confidence to tell your story – whatever it may be. Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m.

Burgers n’ Beer for oneROOF is going down from 12 to 8 p.m at Short Finger Brewing. The fundraiser is in support of oneROOF’s education and employment program and is brought to you by the fine folks at Short Finger and the Hemlock Burger Barn. (h/t to Andrew Coppolino for the info!)

Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery’s Family Sunday is back from 1 to 4 p.m. Experiment with newspapers as an art material and create collages based on Shapes of Facts, a video installation by Yoshiki Nishimura. Take a closer look at Planting one Another, and sketch the various plants and pollinators within KWAG’s replanting of Mike MacDonald’s medicine and butterfly garden. Be inspired by the Anishinaabe story of Spider Woman, and make your own spider-themed artwork while viewing Terre Chartrand’s Asibikaashi (Spider Woman). Best of all, it’s free thanks to Equitable Life of Canada.

You don’t even go here. KWFamous and the Underground Flavour Group are bringing brunch back with the Mean Girls Brunch featuring Mean Girls-inspired menu and cocktails, Mean Girls trivia, and the fetchest music ever.
