This panel is hosted by notable Waterloo Math Alum and star of Canada’s Drag Race, Kyne Santos. She will share her journey from Math student to international internet stardom and discuss with fellow panelists the struggles and realities of entrepreneurship alongside panelists Trisha Abe, Sam Jones, and Shaza Tariq Hassan Elnour as they discuss balancing their passion projects with academics and how to use a side hustle to shape a successful future. CAFKA presents BIG IDEAS in Art and Culture Lecture Series featuring Aruna D’Souza. An Art of Opacity is informed by Édouard Glissant’s notion of “the right of opacity” for the colonial subject—a right stripped by the colonizer, who surveils every aspect of that subject’s experience, and denies the existence of what he cannot see—a number of artists, including Jennifer Packer, Simone Leigh, Dawoud Bey, and Rose-Janan Uddoh have explored the power of withdrawing from view as a central aspect in their work. Post-Part Kitchener Exhibition is an artist lead, outdoor interactive exhibition inspired by the short story The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Using illustration, collage, audio composition and RGB filter technology, we invite people to experience a glimpse into the experience of Postpartum Mood Disorders. On these guided walks, lead artist Catherine Mellinger (she/her) will speak to what inspired the project, how it was created, how we translated the project from an in person indoor setting to an outdoor walk, and guiding those coming along to experience QR code connected web content at each site.
