A couple virtual events and ways to support local businesses as we head into the red zone.

This week’s newsletter is light on in-person events since we’re moving into the red zone today. But that doesn’t mean we can’t support our local businesses. If you can, order some takeout or get a craft beer delivery. Also, it’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday, so here’s a quick list of ways you can shop local and support our local businesses:

Film Writer Adam Nayman returns to Kitchener Public Library to discuss his latest book, Paul Thomas Anderson: Masterworks at 7pm. Online event.

Waterloo Public Library has an after school magic camp from 4 to 4:30pm.

Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) is hosting a presentation from Suzie Dunn, PhD Candidate, Faculty of Law, University of Ottawa on online gender-based violence. It’s something that many of us don’t see happening on a daily basis - but it is happening - especially with more and more people working from home due to COVID-19. Deepfakes and Digital Harms: Emerging Technologies and Gender-Based Violence takes place from 7-8:30pm.
Dyke Bar Takeover KW & Comic Sans bring an all-star all-Queer lineup of standup comedians right to your living room! Join them from 7:30-9pm in your comfiest pair of sweatpants to have a whole bunch of laughs and help them support an amazing cause: Women’s College Hospital.

Join the Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery for a virtual conversation with the artist behind 'Black Drones in the Hive' - Deanna Bowen. Bowen will discus her solo exhibition, Black Drones in the Hive, in conversation with KWAG Senior Curator Crystal Mowry.
Kitchener Public Library’s 85 Queen Series presents The Next Green – Innovation in Sustainable Design. Dubbeldam Architecture + Design’s Heather Dubbeldam will share her team’s ongoing Prix de Rome travel research, centered on Denmark, Sweden and Norway as leaders in sustainable design, and how that research has shaped the work of her practice in Toronto.

Arts Awards Waterloo Region has their annual awards show this Friday from 7 to 8pm. They’ll be recognizing art, artists and arts organizations in the local community.
Saturday, November 28
Wonders of Winter in Waterloo Park starts on Saturday. There’s no opening ceremony to reduce crowds. It’s a great way to get out and be physically distant while enjoying the amazing light show.
Sunday, November 29
Head over to Bingemans for the Gift of Lights Walk-Night in Support of Family & Children's Services from 5:30 to 9pm.
