Waterloo Public Library and Renison College present Field of Dreamers: Recreational Softball Beyond the Binary. The panel discussion asks how we can imagine recreational sports outside of the gender binary and the forms of toxic masculinity that often permeate these spaces. The panel will also discuss the basics of creating queer and non-binary sports leagues, the political work of recreational sports, and the need for municipalities to re-imagine adult recreation post-pandemic. Empty Bowls, in support of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region kicks off on May 20. This year, hundreds of unique bowls will be auctioned off starting at noon on Thursday, May 20 to noon on Tuesday, May 25. The minimum bid starts at $30 per bowl. Please note, the minimum bid for two bowls is $60, four bowls is $120 and so on. All bowls were handmade by the talented members of the Waterloo Potters’ Workshop and donated for the Empty Bowls silent auction.
May Daze is fundraising effort is in support of a new creative industries complex in St. Jacob's Ontario, the Three Sisters Cultural Centre. The Centre will house a critical mass of artistic enterprises to form a community by providing an affordable and supportive environment in which the creative industry can thrive in Waterloo Region. Within the Centre artists will find a place to create, sell and teach, as the Centre includes Studio space, a Gallery and Event space, all combined in a tourist setting.
Bike for a great cause – join the Bike-A-Thon for Affordable Housing with MennoHomes on June 12, 2021. All funds raised will go towards their new affordable housing project at 544 Bridgeport Road East, Kitchener.
